History

Imagine being able to say that you have not only come to Florence, but that you have stayed in a palace previously inhabited by 16th century monks, a famous French poet and finally by the Strozzi family, the richest family in Florence in the 14th century, rivalled only by the famous Medici dynasty in historical significance. It was in the 16th century that the building that now houses the Hotel Vasari was an ancient monastery. It was converted into a magnificent mansion in the 19th century by Alfonse De Lamartine, the famous French poet so inspired by Florence, who made his home here before selling to the noble Strozzi family, a family strong and alive in Florence’s history.

The Strozzi family were an ancient and noble Florentine family who are most remembered for the impressive Palazzo Strozzi just off Piazza della Republicca. The Strozzi Palace is now used for many art and cultural exhibits and is well worth visiting.

The Strozzi Palace is just one of the many impressive palaces and ‘museums’ to visit in Florence.

No trip to Florence is complete without visiting the world famous Uffizi art gallery, most known for its incredible Botticelli room. Across the river stands the Pitti Palace and the enchanting Boboli gardens.

The Pitti family were another family who showed their power and wealth by building a magnificent palace to rival those of the Medicis, though unlike the Strozzis, unfortunately Mr. Pitti went bankrupt and had to sell to the Medicis!.
